What a difference a day week makes! This was the lake at the beginning of last week
This was the lake that greeted me this week…
I would say how quiet and peaceful it was. It certainly looks that way. Last week was the sound of sheer silence. This week our feathered friends were chirping, chattering, screeching, whistling, crying, and singing away merrily in full surround-sound! What a glorious sound, and such a welcome sight to see the lake returned from its icy prison.
Perfect calm. Hot sunshine on bare arms. Gulls and terns calling. And if you listen very very carefully the gentlest lapping of water on sand. Who needs violins?
Of course I had to put up with the crowds. There were five other people and three dogs on the beach!
On the walk back past the lagoon I noticed the beaver lodge was in fine order. We will come and have a visit one evening when Mr B likes to go for his swim. The Marsh Marigolds were blooming in abundance. But they prefer to grow where it is hard to approach without heavy wellies (gumboots? Rubber boots?). I didn’t fancy having my runners sucked off in the muddy marsh.
I left the swamp/marsh/wetland area for higher ground and the cabin. Life is good.
I didn’t install the door closer; didn’t rake the area we call lawn; didn’t cut any logs; didn’t wash any windows. It was a good day. And good day to you.

So much can change in a week! As much as I love having times of pure silence, I so enjoy the sounds of birds.
Glorious marsh marigolds!
Enjoy it all.
Just Rod said:
Thanks Marylin, it’s so good to be able to get out and enjoy creation.

Hi Rod, that was great and I always enjoy. Going to forward this to Stacey she will enjoy it.

Thanks Val. Hope all is ok at your place now. Ray didn’t have the relaxing time I did.

Wow, wow, wow. Almost makes me want to move to Winnipeg. Almost….

It’s a lovely place in summer. Winter is fun too. I just wish it knew when it had outstayed its welcome!

I like a good snowy winter. For about 6 weeks. But no such place exists, that I know of. Winter is that kind of guy who is always the last one to leave the party.

Andrew saw the bug and saw that it was good. It being the sixth day I am resting, just like the other days of the week. The Marsh Marigolds are stunners. A week is a short time on weather terms it seems. But you have to manage the crowds. So many people. Very troubling.

Yes those Madding Crowds!

Beautiful shots of a beautiful place – whatever the season. It really does look so peaceful.
Just Rod said:
In the main it is Jenny. But they do allow motorized water scooters which can be annoying on summer weekends. The main pleasure in driving these ecologically disastrous noise creators, seems to be bring seen by people on the beach who don’t drive them.
But most of the time it is a wonderful place to just be.

I think that I may be falling in love with Winnipeg. What an extraordinarily beautiful place. The lake and the big skies, the peace, the marsh marigolds, the bird life, all the things that I love. I’m amazed how quickly the ice has melted and how different everything looks from last week. A stunning set of photographs, Rod – thanks for sharing.
Just Rod said:
You are welcome. Winnipeg and area is far more beautiful than most of Canada thinks.

When wnter finally unleashes its grip on nature is seems as if the flora and fauna to make it fast for “up north” winter will return in a few short months. It is truely wonderous to witness how nature changes so quickly.
I’m sure your cabin in the woods has got to be one of your most favorite places. The photos of the lake and the marsh marigolds are beautiful. And “look out” for those crowds. 🙂
Just Rod said:
Yes Yvonne a fairly short growing season but such a productive one.
I’ll try to avoid the crowds 🙂

Super! Winter is over and Spring has Sprange, I mean sprung. 🙂 It’s amazing how quickly things can change in nature. We are totally greened in now as I hope you shall be shortly, Rod.
You have to have a good pair of knee high boots….Wellies or, in m y case, Muck boots for Marsh Marigolds. When I shot mine a while back the even the muckers literally did get sucked off my feet. One has to take it slow to keep them on. Your MMs look just fine to me and that last one with the little critter is really very nice. I envy the cabin on the lake. Lucky youse! 🙂
Just Rod said:
Thanks Steve. The looking down on the MMs doesn’t have enough depth of field, and there is photographer shadow lurking at the bottom. But it was the best of a poor bunch of images and I wanted to show the MMs. I had a very happy day 😎
Steve Gingold said:
Photographer’s shadow…I like that one, Rod. I noticed those things but we’re not here to critique each other…we’re here to enjoy the views. And I enjoyed it. 🙂

You are very kind Steve. As long as my sense of joy at the blooming of nature comes through I am happy.
